I'm sure most of you know what the Shell Shocked Contest is. For those who don't know, the Shell Shocked Contest was released on January the 27th with the intention of getting the community to show their best. The judging was based on playability, cosmetics, historical accuracy, and unspoiled creativity. From weapon placements to spawns to the tiniest pallet being placed. These maps we examined greatly to find the true winner.

I'm sure most of you will skim through this text anyway, so without further ado - the winners of the Shell Shocked Contest!

Coming In at 3rd Place:

The Battle For Bunker Hill!

Author's Comments:
My map captures the hilly structure of the battle of Bunker hill. On the bottom of the hill, British troops spawn, having one of two ways to advance to the top of the hill. One way is very muddy and makes moving slow, but offers more cover from Continental fire. The other way is quicker, but smart Continental troops could pick you off more easily on this path.

On the top of the hill, Continental army members spawn covered by barriers (symbolizing trenches). There are more barricades lower down to surprise British troops, but this could leave you trapped, as the barricades are too high to jump over, just high enough to shoot over. It's your choice.

We loved the interlocking, and the map design. The steep hill and the softer slope idea was brilliant. We wished the map would have been bigger. The map felt cramped at times. We recommend this variant to small parties only.

Second place goes to:

Tunnel Rats!
Created by: Salty

Author's Comments:
The Tunnel Rat is used in underground combat and they are experts on tunnel warfare. They are sent into tunnels, mines and small cave systems were an enemy is assumed to hide. The Tunnel Rats primary task is to perform reconnaissance and also possibly perform close combat in the tunnels. He could also be assigned to destroy a tunnel by planting explosives at tactical positions.

Comments:
This map was a huge success while we were playing with our judges. It shows a lot of creativity, historical accuracy, and cosmetic awesomeness. The tunnel system is good, but why must we crouch through 90% of the tunnel? Would it have been so hard to make it a couple feet higher? Recommended for 4-12 players.

First place goes to:

Battle of Somme!

Author's Comments:
A difficult part of creating the map, for me, was giving a good balance between historical accuracy and good gameplay. Halo is mostly based around quick reflexes and twitch gameplay, which doesn't really correlate to how the Battle of the Somme was fought. This means there are several compromises. Though no man's land is very exposed, it is not certain death to venture onto it, and though the trenches provide excellent cover and resources, it is not the only place players can go.
