Better late than never! Monday brought us a new matchmaking playlist with the first time we see a true Extraction playlist.

EXTRACTION!

For those of you unfamiliar with extraction 343i does a great job explaining it:

Extraction is a 5 vs. 5 objective-based game type where opposing Spartan teams are tasked with extracting assets from various sites around the map. Once a team has found a site and is in position, they must plant their beacon and protect it from the opposing team while the extraction process occurs. If the defending team remains in control of the beacon, they receive one point, however if the opposing team overtakes the site before extraction is complete, the point is theirs. Once a site has been extracted, a new site becomes available. The first team to extract five points wins.

Along with default 2 base extraction, they also added a new variant: 1 base extraction. The one base is amazing for smaller maps, and the single attack point really puts an emphasis on coordinating with your team to maintain control. I had an epic comeback after being down 2-4 on 1 base. Truly one of the best new gametypes in Halo 4.

MAJESTIC DLC

Majestic DLC has been out for a week now. For those of you that haven't purchased it yet, I highly recommend it. Majestic brings some of the best small maps that I have personally seen in a halo game since Halo 2. Not to say there hasn't been good maps, but rather that these are just that good.

To keep the playlists fun and consistent, modifications have been made to the DLC playlist to keep things flowing smoothly. The biggest of these is the re-addition of Radar in Rumble Pro and the removal of instant respawn in select team games.

FORGE MAPS

Two new forge maps are making their way into the CTF Playlist. Simplex, as previously seen in Forge Test and Team Throwdown, moved up in the world to a presumably full time position in CTF.

We also get to test out the on-disk forge map, Settler.

Has anyone actually played Settler?

Also I just really like this screenshot:

Thanks for tuning in.

Here's a question for everyone:

Have you played Settler yet or will CTF be the first time you play it?
