Thank God It’s Forgeday Rewind
Written by TrueDarkFusion

What are the "Musings?"

What other event is more synonymous with Forge Hub than Thank God It’s Forgeday? Forge Hub was founded back in October of 2007 as an outlet for myself and a handful of others to post their Forge creations. Some of these maps became pretty popular for their innovation and great gameplay for the time. Forge Hub gained a small following in its Wordpress days. At the time no one other than the Guilders could have maps featured so the community just sat there and looked on. I believe what happened next was the turning point for Forge Hub. After a few weeks of posting maps, the other Guilders decided that something more should be done to interact with the community so we founded Forge Hub Game Night where Guilders would host parties on a Friday night and play with some of the community members.

Shortly after the first Game Night, Forge Hub made the switch to the SMF version of the site. As soon as the new site was established, the Staff changed the event’s name to Thank God It’s Forgeday to make the event more personalized and began to hold the event every other week. Forge Hub users could sign up the Monday before TGIF was to be held and would be randomly assigned to a party led by a Staff member. On Friday the parties would play a variety of Forge maps, many of which were the most popular on Forge Hub. The event gained more popularity each TGIF, and soon it became a hobby of dedicated users to sit waiting for sign ups to be posted to secure their spot in TGIF. For such a simple concept TGIF has truly become the staple event of Forge Hub.

Unfortunately TGIF was designed for a smaller community when it was still known as Forge Hub Game Night when the Staff meagerly sat typing up map posts for the Wordpress blog. Never had we planned for the community to get this large. Despite the growing size of the community the Staff never reorganized TGIF. Instead of reworking the event so it would function within a large community TGIF remained stagnant for a whopping total of 11 TGIF events. Of course this is all about to change on Monday.

On Monday we will be posting sign ups for TGIF 2.0. For TGIF 12, twenty hosts have been appointed, each with a different theme planned for their party. Themes range anywhere from Rocket Race to MLG to Classic TGIF. To sign up players will add 1 of 3 TGIF gamertags to their friendlist, all of which contain the 20 hosts. On the night of TGIF 12 all the hosts will change their gamerpicture to a bunny to differentiate them in the list. Additionally all the hosts will edit their motto and bio to include information regarding their TGIF party. Each party will be set to a specific number of slots depending on their theme and the parties will be open the entire night. This allows for players to come and go as they please. That’s right players can now transfer parties. Tired of playing rocket race? Well just leave the party and join the MLG party. Or perhaps infection tickles your fancy? The new format will allow many more community members to take part in the event than before. In addition the server style of hosting should also be more beneficial to the community than the previous format. This will be a learning experience for all of us, and we will make necessary changes to the new format as we progress.

If you are going to miss the classic TGIF format do not fret. A few of the hosts have opted to go with TGIF class formats or formats that are somewhat similar. Change is sometimes necessary. Adapt or be forgotten.
