Ultimate Frisbee

Background

With the return of assault and score zones I wanted to create a new version of Ultimate Frisbee that I had made for Halo 4's Oddball/Grifball gametype. I checked YouTube to see if anyone had been working on one and came across TurbTastics version he made in Ricochet. I messaged him to see if he had started work on one, and indeed he was considering making it but did not have time to work on the fine details so I offered my help.

Court Size

We spent an afternoon feeling out the court size until we came up with a scale we felt made sense. The court is comprised of these dimensions:

Length of field: 5x128' blocks(640') long and 5x64' blocks (320')wide. The Endzone is 72' tall

Movement

We tweaked the settings little by little until we came up with a game we really enjoy. Unfortunately it is not possible to have 0% movement speed so we reduced everything down to 10% and it accomplishes the same effect.

The ball carrier can jump a bit higher than the others to allow for more odds of getting a pass out to their teammates.

Damage

Non-carriers are invulnerable but the ball carrier can be killed... eventually. You have to dole out around 6 melees to take him down, which comes out to about a 10 second counter against 1 person.

Catch to Score

We felt it was too easy to roll the ball in at the endzone to score, and added a barrier on the ground to prevent that. You must catch the ball to score a goal. If you drop it the ball resets to the middle. Throw carefully.

Bugs and Exploits

That's pretty much all there is too it. The game is hard to exploit so you are not required to use any honor rules. The only exception is it is unfortunately possible to punch your ball carrier around even with knockback disabled, but the same is true for the enemy team. Most people don't even bother because throwing is more effective and they don't want to die.

We would have liked to release this sooner, but something about the previous update caused it to break. Thankfully Memories of Reach resolved that.
